When most people think of a tummy tuck, they think of the many ways that it can enhance the appearance of a person’s torso and boost her confidence and self-esteem. What many might not recognize, however, is the benefits that this cosmetic surgery procedure can have on a person's physical health as well.
Enjoy More Versatile Workouts
One of the most immediate benefits that you will experience after recovering from your tummy tuck is the ability to engage in sports and activities that you could not enjoy prior to your cosmetic surgery. Without excess weight to carry around your midsection, it will be much easier for you to stay active and therefore healthier throughout the week. Running, cycling, and playing sports will be easier tasks for you to fill your days with thanks to your slimmer figure.
Reduce Your Appetite and Prevent Overeating
A tummy tuck can enhance your overall health by diminishing your appetite and increasing your satiety level. According to certain research studies, by removing fat cells in the abdomen, not only does Dr Jennifer Geoghegan take away pounds and inches, but she can also lower the presence of certain hormones in the body that are responsible for increasing appetite.
Experience Fewer Infections
By removing excess skin left over following a major weight loss, a plastic surgeon can actually reduce the risk of infection for patients. If you have lost a significant amount of weight, you know that infections can occur in the folds of excess skin that remain. When this excess skin is removed, it becomes easier to keep the abdominal area clean and free of infections.

The way you look can greatly affect the way you feel and your level of self-confidence. If you are unhappy with the size or shape of your breasts, a breast augmentation or breast lift procedure could be right for you. As with any cosmetic surgery, it’s important to understand the benefits and risks before deciding to go forward with the procedure. Once you and Dr Jennifer Geoghegan decide which breast surgery is right for you, you’ll need to take good care of yourself in order to maintain your results. Keep reading to learn how to care for your breasts after plastic surgery.
After you are released from the hospital following your surgery, it is essential that you follow your doctor’s orders. Once the procedure has been completed, you will be wrapped in gauze, an ace bandage, or a surgical bra before you go home. 24 hours following the surgery, you can remove the surgical dressings as long as you leave the skin tape over your incisions. This tape is designed to stick to your skin, and will fall off on its own. You may experience some swelling and bruising around the surgical area, which is normal and should improve over the course of a few weeks.
Most plastic surgeons feel that it’s acceptable to shower 48 hours after your surgery. While you can bathe in this manner, it is not a good idea to take a bath, swim, soak in a hot tub, or be in any other still water. Your incisions should be kept as dry as possible for the majority of the time, so put your hot tub plans on hold for the time being.
If you normally wear an underwire bra, Dr Jennifer Geoghegan will recommend putting it aside during your recovery, as the wire can affect how your implants are positioned. You can remove your surgical bra or ace bandage for showering, but you should put it back on snugly once you’re dry.

Giving birth is a natural and miraculous experience, and being a mother is something many women desire. Though you may have enjoyed being pregnant and you certainly love your child, you may not love what pregnancy has done to your body. Proper diet and exercise can help you start to shed pregnancy pounds, but there may be some changes that you cannot fix with these methods alone. More and more women are turning to plastic surgery to get their pre-pregnancy bodies back. Read on to learn about what a post-pregnancy mommy tuck involves, and to see if it might be right for you.
Women who are within 10 pounds of their ideal weight may want to consider a mommy tuck to help them regain a flatter, firmer stomach. If this sounds like you, it’s a good idea to consult with Dr Jennifer Geoghegan to understand the potential benefits and risks of the procedure. During a mommy tuck or tummy tuck, Dr G will make incisions to expose the abdominal muscles so that they can be stitched back together if they are separated. The skin is pulled taut to cover the area, and any excess skin is removed. If you are planning on getting pregnant again, this procedure typically isn’t recommended, until you are done having children.
Because the skin is stretched tightly during a mommy tuck, recovery may take a bit longer. It may take a few days for your skin to loosen up, so you may have to sleep in a sitting or flexed position initially. If you have a sedentary job, you may be able to return to it in as little as two weeks. Dr Jennifer Geoghegan will prescribe pain medication to make you more comfortable during your recovery. Once you feel better, sticking to a healthy lifestyle will help you maintain your results.
If you have been wishing you could change your post-pregnancy belly, call Oasis Plastic Surgery & Skin Spa of Scottsdale at (480) 264-6428 to schedule a consultation. Our friendly team will take great care of you and make sure you fully understand any cosmetic procedure you choose to undergo.
