A tummy tuck procedure can give you a sculpted abdomen by removing loose skin and excess fat. After your cosmetic surgery, it’s important to take time to rest and recover to maximize your results. Knowing what to expect after your procedure can help ensure a fast and easy recovery:
The First Few Days
In most cases, you can return home the day of your cosmetic surgery. During your first 48 hours, you may feel significant discomfort. Your surgeon will prescribe pain medication; follow the instructions and don’t skip dosages during this time. You can remove your surgical dressings and shower with assistance 24 hours after surgery. However, don’t remove any skin tape that has been applied over your incisions. Eat light meals and snacks as needed and get plenty of rest.
You will be given a compression garment that should be worn anytime you are not showering until your plastic surgeon notifies you otherwise. If you have been given surgical drainage tubes, follow your surgeon’s instructions regarding emptying and recording the amount of fluid collected. These tubes will be removed within five to 15 days, depending on the amount of fluid collection.
Extended Recovery
It may take some time to get back to your normal routine after your plastic surgery. Avoid still water, such as baths or swimming pools, for at least two weeks. As your appetite increases, you can resume your normal diet when you feel ready. Depending on your recovery, you should expect to take at least 10 days off of work, though you may be able to return slightly sooner. Exercise and other physical activities should be limited for up to six weeks or as your surgeon advises. Refrain from sleeping on your stomach or side until you are completely pain-free.

Liposuction is a plastic surgery procedure designed to remove fat deposits from various areas on the body. While your cosmetic surgeon can determine if you are a candidate for liposuction, you should educate yourself on the uses and indications for the procedure before your consultation. Get the facts with this overview on common liposuction myths:
MYTH: Liposuction Is an Alternative to Weight Loss
One of the biggest misconceptions regarding liposuction is that it is an alternative to weight loss surgery. While a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is designed to remove large amounts of excess fat and tissue, liposuction focuses on removing small pockets of fat that are unresponsive to diet and exercise. For this reason, candidates for liposuction should be near their goal weights with localized fat deposits along their midsection, thighs, calves, or other areas.
MYTH: Fat Cannot Return Following Liposuction
A number of individuals believe that the fat removed during liposuction cannot return once it has been removed. However, failure to maintain the results through proper diet and routine exercise may allow the fat to return or redistribute itself to other areas of the body.
MYTH: Liposuction Will Eliminate Cellulite
Cellulite is not caused by fat—it is caused by your fat cells pushing up against the collagen and elastin fibers connecting the superficial layers of your skin to the deep tissues. This means that while liposuction can reduce the appearance of cellulite by removing fat deposits, the procedure will not actually eliminate cellulite itself.
MYTH: The Procedure Is Painful
Many people think that liposuction is associated with pain and an uncomfortable recovery period. Liposuction is actually a minimally invasive procedure which removes fat using a hollow cannula through small incisions in the skin. This minimizes damage to the adjacent tissues, reducing postoperative discomfort and resulting in a short recovery period.
Find out if liposuction is right for you by setting up an initial consultation with Dr. Jennifer Geoghegan at Oasis Plastic Surgery. Call (480) 619-5418 for more information on our med spa services in Scottsdale.

Breast reconstruction is a common procedure for women who have undergone a mastectomy for breast cancer treatment. Some patients may choose to undergo a breast reconstruction at the same time as their mastectomy or at a later date.
This video provides an overview on breast reconstruction surgery methods used following a mastectomy. Breast reconstruction may be performed using a latissimus dorsi flap or TRAM flap. The latissimus dorsi flap is done by creating an incision in the upper back before separating and rotating the skin onto the breast area. The TRAM flap, on the other hand, uses a portion of the tissue along your abdomen or lower back to form a new breast mound.

While breast enhancement procedures are among some of the most common body-contouring procedures performed today, many women are opting for breast reduction surgery rather than augmentation. If you have large breasts, consider the benefits of undergoing breast reduction surgery:
Increase Your Self-Confidence
Large, oversized breasts can often decrease your self-confidence, especially when your breasts are disproportionate or interfere with the symmetry of your body. A breast reduction can be performed to reshape the size of your breasts so that they better suit your existing body contours.
Boost Your Clothing Options
Many women with oversized breasts find that they are unable to wear the clothes that they once enjoyed in their youth. Get back into the blouses and dresses you love to wear by discussing your breast reduction options with your plastic surgeon.
Participate in Activities
Large breasts not only alter your clothing options, but also may interfere with your ability to participate in certain activities. Undergoing a breast reduction can effectively enable you to participate in sports such as yoga, swimming, golf, and running.
Alleviate Discomfort
One of the biggest benefits of undergoing a breast reduction is putting an end to painful symptoms. For example, women with large breasts often experience chronic back and neck pain, headaches, nerve irritations, and even skin rashes along their breast creases. A breast reduction can help reduce discomfort and put an end to skin irritations by reducing the size and overall weight of your breast tissue.
