4 Things to Keep in Mind When Deciding on Breast Augmentation

    Last updated 11 months ago

Breast augmentation through the use of breast implants is one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures performed today. While the best way to determine if a breast enhancement is right for you is to consult with Dr Jennifer Geoghegan, there are certain things you will want to keep in mind when deciding to undergo breast augmentation.

    1. Type of Implant

The two FDA-approved implants for breast augmentation include saline and silicone breast implants. Saline implants consist of an outer silicone shell filled with sterile saltwater solution, while silicone breast implants are filled with a cohesive silicone gel. A great way to determine which implant is best for your goals is to examine and touch each one during your initial consultation.

    2. Implant Size

Implants come in a variety of sizes. When choosing your implant size, you will want to take your other body contours into consideration to ensure that the size you choose complements your figure.

    3. Implant Placement

There are two placement options utilized for breast augmentation procedures. You will need to choose between a submuscular placement, in which the implant is under the pectoral muscle, and a subglandular placement, in which the implant is over the pectoral muscle directly behind the breast tissue.

    4. Incision Location

One of the last things you will want to consider when deciding on breast augmentation is the location of your incision. An inframammary incision is located in the crease below each breast, while a transaxillary incision is located in the armpit. A periareolar incision located around or at the base of the nipple.

    Tummy Tuck Facts

    Last updated 11 months ago

One of the most common complaints among women is stubborn belly fat and excess skin that simply will not respond to exercise. This problem is so universal because women are more prone to excess weight gain and loss of skin elasticity in the stomach than other areas of the body. Both pregnancy and menopause can cause lasting changes to the appearance of the belly, which is why many women are turning to abdominoplasty, or tummy tucks, to create a more toned abdomen. Here are a few quick facts about this surgery to help you decide if it is right for you:

The tummy tuck is not for weight loss: Although fat is removed during the surgery, the tummy tuck is not meant to be used for weight loss purposes. Candidates for surgery should be close to an ideal weight but still struggling with loose skin and stubborn fat.

Surgery can be isolated to the lower abdomen: Many candidates for the tummy tuck only need skin tightening in the lower region of the abdomen, so a mini tummy tuck is ideal. In this variation of the surgery, no incisions are made around the belly button. However, when the surgery is being used after significant weight loss, a total tummy tuck will likely be more appropriate.

Muscles may be tightened during surgery: The skin is not the only feature of the abdomen that can lose its youthful tightness. The muscles may also become relaxed so that exercise is less effective for toning the area. Surgery can address this issue and tighten the muscles so that results are easier to maintain over time.
